Words Matter: Let There Be Light

My husband took this picture on a lake fishing in Minnesota. It struck me as the perfect image of a thought I have had running around in my mind: LET THERE BE LIGHT.

"Words Matter" is a key phrase to me as a writer. The meaning of it, though is Scriptural and Spiritual. In Genesis, God speaks and the world begins. It is His voice, His words that caused something to appear out of nothing. In Genesis 1:3, the Bible says that God separated the light from the darkness by saying "Let there be light."

John 1 tells us that "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." Calling Jesus, the Son of God, the WORD just illustrates the point that words matter. The Word matters. The entire book of James is dedicated to the words we say...even the power of life and death is in the tongue according to Proverbs 18.

Recently, I have been meditating on LET THERE BE LIGHT. That is what God said when He was setting the universe into motion. That is what God said when He sent Jesus into Mary's womb. That is what God said when He accepted the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. It is what He said when He opened my eyes to my sin and my need for a Savior.

LET THERE BE LIGHT is God's command when He sends believers out to be salt and light to a world cloaked in darkness. Those words are powerful. Those words are not to be taken lightly. It is not a suggestion to be light if you have experienced the forgiveness purchased by the only perfect lamb ever.

A single candle illuminates an entire room. A single believer can pierce the darkness anywhere he or she may go. God has not just given us THE LIGHT, he made us light. I hope and pray believers will take their place and reflect the Light of the world just as God commands.

Words matter. LET THERE BE LIGHT!
